Help grow gardens to feed malnourished families.

The majority of the world’s poor are farmers, yet millions are malnourished. In Rwanda, the disconnect between agriculture and nutrition is striking: 80% of families grow food for a living, yet 35% of young children are chronically malnourished. 83% of children in Rwanda under two do NOT eat a minimum acceptable diet. When a child is malnourished, they get sick more often causing their school attendance to go down. This reduces the child's chance of escaping poverty.

GreaterGood.org works with Gardens for Health International to provide malnourished families with seeds, skills, and knowledge to create vegetable gardens, prepare balanced meals, and keep children healthy. This provides these families with a lasting source of nutritious food.  The families are also given hands-on trainings in skills like composting, creating pesticides and other techniques to maximize crop yields using resources already available. Breaking the poverty cycle is more possible by investing in the nutrition of mothers and young children, since well-nourished children get sick less often, perform better in school, and are more likely to escape poverty.

You can help. Just $8.50 provides vegetable seeds and water purification for one family. Help give families a sustainable solution to hunger!

Gardens for Health International works to provide agricultural solutions to chronic childhood malnutrition by partnering with Rwandan health centers to integrate agricultural support and health education into the clinical treatment of malnutrition, advocating for policies and programs that include agriculture in the treatment of malnutrition, and providing technical assistance to regional partners who wish to adapt our model to their own communities.
