Give a displaced individual a warm shower! Join us in supporting Think Dignity in their goal of providing 1,500 people experiencing homelessness with warm showers.
There are 9,116 homeless individuals in San Diego County— the fourth largest homeless population in the United States. Nearly 60% of the local homeless individuals are unsheltered, with little access to showers and other basic hygiene facilities.
Since 2006, Think Dignity has been working to help people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. Their goal is to provide safe access to services that allow people in need to transition out of homelessness. One of the ways they do this is by providing free access to mobile showers, haircuts, warm meals, and hygiene kits. Feeling clean and well-fed lets people experiencing homelessness feel more in control of their lives, allowing them to confidently apply for jobs. These small luxuries can make a huge difference in someone's outlook.
Think Dignity wants to grow their Fresh Start Showers program to help even more people in need. They began with just 1 shower site in 2016 and have since grown to 11 sites in San Diego alone. Think Dignity also offers hygiene packs to people in need! Hygiene packs include shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. For just $10, you can give a person experiencing homelessness a warm shower and a hygiene pack.
People who have benefitted from the program can't say enough good things about it! One woman had this to say: "I will sleep so much better tonight thanks to you. Also, I know I wont be discriminated against as much tomorrow. Sometimes it feels like nobody, not even close family members care. It feels nice knowing there are caring people who take time and energy to help perfect strangers."
You can help. Give a person in need the gift of dignity.
Consider making a monthly gift. When you give just $10 monthly, you ensure that people in need have access to basic hygiene.
